Another film I focused on was Shutter Island. This is also a Psychological
Thriller like Black Swan, that focuses on the main character U.S Marshall Teddy
Daniels and his psychological state. Shutter Islands target audience is
specifically males aged 18-44, this is because the certificate of this film is
a 15 but it is a mysterious thriller that may make you confused so I don’t believe
that it was focused of the ages 15+ and as the statistics on IMDb shows, the
ratings of the film were highest for the under 18+ but close behind were the
males aged 18-29 who voted the most showing the large majority of them enjoyed
it. I decided that it was targeted at 18-44 because of the majority who had
still voted quite highly at that age. I believe that it is attractive to males
more because of the slight horror side of the film which men usually enjoy more
than women. IMDb found that women
enjoyed the film more than men, but only by 0.1 of a point, but men have voted
more indicating more have watched it so more were more interested to watch it.
The
target audience was influenced by the main character Leonardo DiCaprio as he
had been in many previous well know films such as Titanic,The Departed, Catch
Me If You Can and Gangs of New York. This would bring in his fan base because
they know how good his acting and earlier films were and also bring in more
female viewers because of sex appeal. The film also features Ben Kingsley who has
been in many famous films such as Gandhi Hugo and Schindlers List, this will
bring in his fan base and they would know how good his acting was.
The film received four out of five stars in EMPIRE magazine, 69% on Rotten Tomatoes and is #234 of the Top 250 films on IMDb. It received four wins and
another 27 nominations.
